Improve your view – remove the front strut

Will Morris who sent me these pics, tells me that it’s quite an experience for seasoned trike pilots when they get airborne with such an unimpeded view. Will also says that manufacturers DTA also do a trike specially modified for paraplegics and that the (paraplegic) student after him was very excited because he was about to do his first solo (after 16 hours)

Here are the specs of the aircraft in the pic:
Delta Trikes Aviation Voyager 2. It can take either a 2 stroke 582 or 4 stroke Rotax 912 or 912S. Very robust machine and the Voyager version 1 was flown by Olivier Aubert in the Cape to Cape flight in 1999, and he did almost 1600 hours with the same trike. It uses a Dynamic 450 wing (15.5sqm), with a 450KG max weight. Does 132kmh at cruising speed, with a min speed of 62 kmh and a climb rate of 5m/s (quoting the 912).

Note that the trike is a 2-seater so the monopole must be very strong. AND it doesn’t seem to have a keel. In the lower photo you can see the mechanism that they use to limit the forward movement of the control bar – a nylon block that impacts the rear of the wing keel.
