From The President

Here we go! This really is a season to look forward to after our successful promotion last time out - it was quite exciting at the end with a dramatic play off victory against Heath that certainly got the whole Club on a high. Letís hope that enthusiasm and success continues.

It’s good to be back in North One East and meet again with some old friends and rivals and a few new ones too. It will inevitably be challenging as we have to step up a gear but our coaches and players have been working hard over the summer in preparation.

It is an honour for me to be President of the club where I have played a lot of rugby at all levels, although it looks like I will now have to rely on the “walking” variety….which is actually entertaining and quite competitive. We have even played in our first tournament over the summer.

We are under no illusions in our new surroundings - it's a competitive league and we will have to be at our best to be up there challenging. Just as important, we want to encourage players to come along and represent any of our teams... from the First XV and Stags, through to the Vets, the Academy team, and our Minis and Juniors.
The fact that we have a successful Academy team indicates that the club thrives at that level, and we hope that success will filter through to all our teams.

We intend to work together as a club to ensure a continuation of  the steady progress we have made on and off the pitch in recent years, and all our members, whether they are players or not, have a role to play in that aim.

Off the field the clubhouse and surrounds continue to develop. We have installed new perimeter fencing to the pitch which was funded through kind sponsorship and erected by a team of willing volunteers - great work, and we have plans to improve the facilities further. We have grant approval to demolish the old clubhouse and replace it with a new storage building and viewing area to a new 45m x 35m artificial grass pitch which will be open to the community for a wide range of activities and also useful for the Club – especially our Little Deers and Walking Rugby. Improvements to the car park and training floodlights are also included in the project. At the time of writing planning permission is awaited.

Thanks go to the many volunteers who put many hours into making it the place it is. As a social centre it has developed as the place to be for outside and community functions, which is a good contributor to the club’s finances. But it is also a place for our members and we are working on that - we are primarily a rugby club and a good sign is that players are getting in the club and organising events. It’s important for the future of the Club that we encourage and involve as many people as possible….so if you feel you can contribute please let me know!

Last but not least, thanks to our sponsors and the many people who contribute to the club's day-to-day and long-term running.
Whatever the result, enjoy your day at Brinkburn.
