A Wednesday afternoon phone-call from Ya’Acov.

“I’m in the middle of a lake in Austria on an electric boat.  I’ve a bit of a problem as I’m here for this Shamanic Congress and all the Shamans are supposed to appear for the opening ceremony in their Shamanic costume at 7.0 and I haven’t got one here.  And the shops in the local town don’t seem to have much in the way of Shamanic clothes.”

I roared with laughter and then assured Ya’Acov that he had done pretty well so far in his life and I am sure that he would sort this one out.

Feathers and Ashes, Transformation’s Twins
by Ya'Acov

I’m just back from three wonderful days and nights on Dartmoor on Vision Quest. I had wondered about the title of the ceremony since I wasn’t really looking for more visions. My intention was to build a medicine wheel based on our sigil and spend three days and nights sitting at the centre, fasting, meditating, praying, and listening. I found the perfect spot with a beautiful old ‘tree of life’ and rocks-a-plenty to represent all the manifold essences of the Movement Medicine wheel. I planted four flowering trees in the four directions, set up a simple shelter, arranged my ceremonial paraphanalia and promptly fell asleep for the longest and deepest sleep I can remember!

To sing or not to sing!
By Susannah

Recently I’ve had two letters from people asking for advice with an interesting conundrum, “to sing or not to sing.”

These letters were both from people who have participated in my DanSing workshops and got turned onto singing. Their dilemma arose in a movement orientated evening class with another teacher, when they found themselves singing whilst dancing and were told (by another participant) that their singing was disturbing.  I thought I’d write my response here, as the themes of how to be an individual and be part of community are generic to many situations.

Israel – Berlin – Hamburg – Israel. The story of my Journey

by Aviya Reches

The story of this journey, as 5 Rhythms teacher in training, involves the past, present and future within the shadows of the Rhythms.  Travelling as an Israeli to Germany 60 years after hundreds of my relatives were murdered there, and other millions were murdered for the reason they were different from the German nation is not at all a simple journey for me.  This journey started on a frozen morning in a women's hotel, that is located in the eastern part of Berlin, only 2 steps from the famous bunker of Hitler. A better and more meaningful location could not be found for my journey in my personal and professional life.  The "Director of life" could not find a better location for the beginning of this journey.

Being the Dance

By Katheryn Hope

Yesterday I danced with a friend in a beautiful space created especially for yogic practice with walls that are windows and become picture frames for the stretch of melodious countryside beyond. As I danced I became no mind and my body simply moved as it desired. My movements were as slow as those of Tai Chi or some other ancient art and it felt as if the movement came through me, inner directed by some other hand. My dance became a prayer, a dance with God and my heart expanded so wide. I was swept upon the sound of music, upon a river of love for God and for this life. It became a sacred dance for me.

I wasn’t prepared for the impact this single day event would have on me. I was attracted by the headlined “The most critical issue and the greatest opportunity of our time... and what each of us can do about it.” But I was confident that I was already well informed in the 3 subject areas being addressed. Yes the environment is at risk  – I’m doing my bit, Yes world social justice is a travesty –  I’ve been an activist all my life and as for spiritual fulfilment – Am I not already deeply committed to a body based spiritual  practice? The 5 Rhythms. So when I went to my first “Change the Dream” Symposium in May 2006 it was just to network. So much for complacency - it completely blew me away.

She was longing for the wet sea,

The weeds that she had been cloaked in

Had dried up like organdie
