Welcome
 By Roland
“Just what do you want these pallets for, sir?” asked the man from the hire company.
“Well it’s like this.” I said, buying a few seconds of time and deciding that straightforward honesty was here indeed going to be the best policy, and so I finished the sentence with, “I need them for a Ritual Burial ceremony.”
“I don’t like the sound of that,” said the man. more> |
Community, Ceremony and Mud
 By Susannah
The connections made in the dance often prove to be long lasting, life sustaining, life altering and important. Of course not everyone you shake your toes with becomes your best friend for life, but, its true that many, many of our deep connections have a dance thread running through them. more> |
13 Grandmothers & Ritual as a Way of Life
 by Ya'Acov
Dear Friends of the School of Movement Medicine,
I’m blessed to be here in the Black Hills of South Dakota attending the Fifth International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers in South Dakota. It is a humbling and very moving experience to sit in the presence of these grandmothers who have gathered from all over the world, to be in their ceremonies, and to hear them speak. more> |
Alchemy of Stillness May-June 07
 by Ros Harmsworth
I have just attended the above workshop in which we had a ceremony on the final night and created a temple of installations which formed the Alchemist’s Garden where we danced and connected with the spirit world. I should explain that I was brought up by a very rational and learned father whom I partly patterned myself on. He defended strongly the power of reason and rejected most things to do with religion and spirituality. more> |

Yoga and 5 Rhythms
 by Sarah Harlow
I read an article about 5 Rhythms about 8 years ago that Susannah had written and felt every cell in my body stand to attention! Like I'd found exactly what I'd been yearning for. Within days I was at Alain Allard’s class in Brixton, feeling like I’d been let out of a cage! Thank you Alain. I was a student nurse at the time, hungry for creative expression. more> |
The Secret
 by Phillip James
From beneath the edges of self
A halo of white is pushing through
A moment's hesitation and then
We are transported into a universe of pulsating light
that offers to devour our separation more> |
In memory of you, my dear friend and dancer Erika Seitz, who passed away the 3rd of June.
 Birgitte Rasmussen/Denmark
I’m sure that heaven since last Sunday, has become a much funnier place to stay. Because you are visiting them, you are there. An approach to life, which is not only about being funny, but taking the joyful stand, that we are here on this very earth to face everyday’s life and let it be seen in the mirror of warm and sincere laughter. more> |
Second Wave Productions
by Kay Chambers & p.s. from Susannah
Well June has seen the launch of 2 new cds, Madrum's ‘Soma’ and Nigel Shaw and Carolyn Hillyers’ ‘Exile’. Madrum had a concert here in Totnes to launch their cd into the community, it was really great to go and see the album performed in the flesh, with some fantastic catchy tunes. At one point i had a vision of one of the tracks playing on radio one and everybody driving, singing along, smiling. more> |
The Round House project
 by Dawn Morgan
The connection between 5 Rhythms and Straw Bale Building may seem a bit tenuous....and may be its not!
I am new to this, I'm a dancer not a builder! I have been more concerned with healing, with energy and movement, than with the nitty gritty of practical creating. But I did grow up on a farm, I did at one time learn to lay hedges and help sheep birth their lambs, it just seems such a long time ago, and this project is somehow bringing me round full circle. more> |
