Despite the typical Welsh rain it was smiles all round last week as around 20 students celebrated their graduations at the University of Glamorgan. The students, from the MSc Marketing and Procurement intakes, have all completed their masters degrees via the MDC executive off-campus route. Such was the success of this year’s intake that 5 students managed to gain distinctions in their degrees. Marketing students Colette Mullings, Adrian McCreesh, Marcus Bailey, Diane Hayward and Wes Ryder all produced work of exceptional standard to gain this top honour. Marcus Bailey, Manager (Personal Customer Development) at Lloyds TSB said, “I really enjoyed the course and on reflection, I can't believe how quickly the last year has gone. Hopefully the three colleagues that I recommended the course to will meet the standard of achieving a distinction too!”. The graduation was a grand affair and, despite the weather, everyone had a great time. Janet Benton, who graduated with an MSc in procurement said, “I didn't even notice the rain, I felt so proud and happy!”. Mike Sands, Director of MDC, also attended the graduation, “These results are simply tremendous … it’s not only a testament to the hard work that the individuals have put in over the year, but also shows that professionals who haven’t previously gone down the academic route are quite capable of producing top quality work. The students and tutors on these programmes have worked together to develop group working techniques that are producing results beyond what we had expected. I felt quite moved watching the proud looks on the families’ faces as they watched their loved ones receive their degrees from the Vice Chancellor.” The next MSc intakes take place on 10th October 2003.
