Thurrock 23 - 40 East Grinstead League Points 0:5
Westcombe Park 22 - 34 Tring League Points 0:5
A thumping win for Bury St Edmunds against Hertford at home, and indeed for fast improving Guernsey. At the top of the table, Old Elthamians and Dorking played out a draw, the visitors dropping their first maximum points of the season. Westcombe Park lost at home to Tring, who put in a bonus point five try performance on the road.
Dorking, top of the league, are also the top try scorers with 59, split 42 for the backs and 17 to the forwards. Second placed Old Elthamians have scored 53(backs-38, forwards-15) and East Grinstead on 52(backs-35, forwards-17).
In bottom place Barking have scored just 24 tries(backs-15, forwards-9), followed by Thurrock on 28(backs-9, forwards-19) and 3rd from bottom Westcombe Park on 29 tries(backs-19, forwards-10).
The top point scorers in the league also belong to the top three teams. Tom White of Old Elthamians has scored 200, followed by Andy Frost of Dorking on 169 and Scott Meakin on 142.
Team of the Week: Tring
Basingstoke 31 - 35 Tonbridge Juddian League Points 2:5
Basingstoke must be kicking themselves after their loss against Tonbridge Juddian. Coming to the end of the 3rd quarter, they had just secured the bonus point, but were then hit with a double whammy by visiting winger Lee Campion, who stormed in for a brace of tries at the end of the game. It was 23 - 16 to the home side with scores from Rudi Kochonowski, Gavin Dampies and Tim Richards as opposed to tries by Tom Noot and Liam Rankin for the TJs. Dampies and Noot duly collected their second tries after the interval, but it was the visitors, who went home with a spring in their step.
Bury St Edmunds 37 - 9 Hertford League Points 5:0
Bury St Edmunds picked themselves up after their heavy defeat against Dorking last week, with a bonus point victory against seasoned campaigners, Hertford. It took the home side 30 minutes to start the scoring with a converted try by winger Chris Snelling, converted by Dave Ormrod. Two further tries followed, one for Tim Mann after a break by Tani Samoa, and another by young tight head prop Sean Davis from a line out drive. The home side tightened up their defence and resolve after the Dorking result, and kept Hertford at bay in the 2nd half. They were rewarded with further tries by James Mitchell and Tim Mann. Ormrod picked up 11 points, and for the visitors, Jack Mann kicked two penalties and a drop goal.
CS Rugby 1863 39 - 13 Barking League Points 5:0
CS Rugby 1863 easily defeated a struggling Barking side scoring five tries in the process. Jon Webber picked up a brace, along with tries for Tom Mitchell, Ben Turner and Joe Clarke. Ben Lloyd converted four and kicked two penalties. For Barking, Nathan Barham and Andy Badcock scored tries and Craig Ratford kicked a penalty.
Guernsey 58 - 5 Barnes League Points 5:0
Guernsey thumped a disappointing Barnes team, scoring eight tries in the process. Tries kept on coming in regular intervals through Luke Sayer(+conversion), Ben McDougall, Layton Batiste, James Regnard, Tom Ceillam(2) and Matt Thomas. Sam Whitehead kicked two penalties and five conversions.
Old Elthamians 20 - 20 Dorking League Points 2:2
The two top teams in the league played out a 20-all draw at Old Elthamians, but one was left wondering if the home side could have reduced Dorking’s lead, had they not had a man sent off. It was 10-all at half time with a converted try and penalty a piece. Andy Frost kicked a penalty and converted Fraser Macdonald’s try. Tom White for the Old Boys, converted John Williams try on the stroke of half time, and kicked an earlier penalty. Renford Bennett’s converted try and another White penalty swung it in OE’s favour with just eight minutes remaining but the pendulum swung in the visitor’s favour when home flanker James Lindfield got sent off. Will Crow scored a converted try and deep in injury time, up stepped Andy Frost with a penalty to share the spoils.
Thurrock 23 - 40 East Grinstead League Points 0:5
East Grinstead picked up a regular win at lowly Thurrock with a 6-try win. Try scorers were James Faatuatu(2), Adam Hinds, Leon Ella, Tom Standfied and Dominic Groenen with Scott Meakin converting five.
Westcombe Park 22 - 34 Tring League Points 0:5
Tring set the ball rolling from an early stage at Westcombe Park with tries by Richard Roberts, Zak Michalski and Nick Radley, Will Mitchell converting one and kicking a penalty to register 20 points at the interval. Ben Hough and Reece Conlon responded for the home side, but it was only going to be Tring’s day. Further scores came from Justin Brown and Tom Newton both converted. Trent Natrass scored late for Westcombe park and Iain Gordon added another handful to his earlier conversion, but Tring picked up five points.
The Week Ahead
Bury St Edmunds v Barking League Points 5:0
Dorking v Basingstoke League Points 5:0
East Grinstead v Guernsey League Points 4:1
Old Elthamians v Thurrock League Points 5:0
Tonbridge Juddian v Westcombe Park League Points 5:0
Tring v Hertford League Points 5:0
Bury St Edmunds should be far too strong for a struggling Barking side.
Dorking are unlikely to slip up against Basingstoke.
East Grinstead and fast improving Guernsey will be the match of the day, and on current form could go either way. East Grinstead’s home form has been unbeaten, and I suspect, it may just stay that way.
Old Elthamians will carry on their winning ways against Thurrock.
Tonbridge Juddian are unlikely to slip up against Thurrock.
Tring are on good form and should beat Hertford at home.
